“Rewriting Fear: Schema‑Based Strategies for Childhood Anxiety”
Children with anxiety often struggle not only with fear, but with deeper emotional patterns—early schemas—shaped by temperament, attachment experiences, and the family environment. Schema Therapy offers a developmentally sensitive framework that helps clinicians understand why certain fears persist and what unmet needs lie beneath worry, avoidance, and emotional overwhelm.
Also, performance anxiety, in particular, is frequently maintained by schemas such as Failure, Unrelenting Standards, Approval‑Seeking, and Defectiveness/Shame. Schema Therapy offers a developmentally sensitive lens to understand why these fears take hold and how to meet the core needs beneath them.
This workshop focuses on applying Schema Therapy principles to children and preteens with anxiety.
What this workshop covers:
- Understanding common schemas dispositions in anxious children (Vulnerability, Failure, Punitiveness, Dependence, Approval‑Seeking) and in performance anxiety (Failure, Unrelenting Standards, Approval‑Seeking, and Defectiveness/Shame
